Our history
Rivervale Barn first opened its doors as a wedding venue in 2009, but the story began long before then. The venue is owned John and Moyra Illsley, and sits within the historic grounds of Mill Farm in Hampshire. Records go back to 1351, recording the site as Yateley Corn Mill and then a working farm for well over 100 years. John and Moyra moved to Mill Farm with their family in 1982.
In 2003, John and Moyra Illsley’s son Paul celebrated his wedding reception at Mill Farm, which sparked the idea for a purpose-built venue where couples could enjoy their entire day in one beautiful space. After five years of planning and construction, that vision became reality: a striking 9,000-square-foot green oak barn designed with weddings at its heart.

From the very beginning, John and Moyra focused on space, flow, and light. They wanted every couple to enjoy a ceremony barn filled with atmosphere, a dining room for 150 guests, and generous reception areas where everyone could celebrate together. Every detail, from landscaped gardens to the morning preparation room, was created to make each day effortless.
What makes Rivervale Barn truly special is John and Moyra’s unwavering dedication to the venue. They’re always looking for ways to give couples and their guests the best possible experience, as shown by their latest addition, Rivervale Lodge. The stunning 10-bedroom accommodation was created with the same care and attention to detail as the barn itself.
For John and Moyra, the most rewarding part of the journey has always been the people they welcome into their home. The happy couples, their families, and their guests all become a part of the rich history of Rivervale Barn.
